C-SPAN podcasting...
Cool! I'm a fan of policy wonkage, and C-SPAN is a good place to find it. In addition to live video, archived programs (for example, if you want to see White House press briefings), and such, they've also recently added podcasts!
Hey, I know it's pure nerdly joy, but as Bruce Sterling says, Follow
your geekdom
. I aim to. [Note: That's a good overview link to Bruce
Sterling's writings, but the hyperlink from that site to EFF for the
full text of that particular speech is stale. The correct EFF link is The
Wonderful Power of Storytelling
].

Another one!
Some days, it seems like the podcasts gang up on me. O'Reilly has started a new one as well, called Distributing the Future
. Looks very good!

Access to the requested URL is not allowed!
That's what Saudi Arabians saw if they tried to view Blogger, Flickr, or LiveJournal yesterday. Blogger.com access has apparently been restored as of today, but not Flickr or LiveJournal.
Note: I'm not particularly surprised by this (hell, it's now illegal to sell "violent video games" to children in California, Illinois, and Michigan), but it's still somewhat surreal. Of course, the other HUGE Internet censor is China, and well...what once was a Communist enemy, now makes all our stuff. And holds big hunks of our national debt.
I hear at one time we were interested in being a shining beacon to the world. *sigh*

Paul Graham has a great batting average...
He hits another one out of the park with What Business Can Learn From Open Source.
You could call it 'Work Day.'
*chuckle* He's so right, he
makes me laugh.

Finally saw Serenity.
I was booked up this past weekend (geekfest!!) and didn't get a chance to go until today. Wow. That was really, really good. I won't give away plot for the sake of the throngs of avid kenzoid-fans who haven't yet seen it, but it was some of the best movie scifi I've seen. I like different things in my written science fiction...the written word doesn't have the limited canvas of TV and film (even big-budget films have limitations), so I like novels to stretch and explore that greater space.
But I'm fine with a good scifi movie that has a compelling story, engaging characters, and ray guns. (well, in this case, highly evolved uber-six shooters, but still). You takes what you can get...some movies (Blade Runner and Minority Report come to mind off the top of my head) can bring the environment to life better than Serenity did, but I can live with that. The story was great fun. (and note...the environmental immersion wasn't bad, it just wasn't quite the quality of Blade Runner. Serenity was trying for something different, and succeeded, IMO.) I'm crossing my fingers and toes for it to do well enough to birth a sequel. If you like science fiction, give it a shot. And if you haven't already, watch the series DVDs!
